Last Thursday, August 15th, the La Romana Country Club at Casa de Campo commemorated the Italian holiday of Ferragosto with a celebration that stood out for both its festive atmosphere and its warm reception among the local community. This event, marking the third year of celebration at the exclusive Country Club, included a friendly golf tournament and an elegant dinner with live music.
The day began at 1:30 p.m. with the golf tournament held at its prestigious golf course, which brought together a dozen enthusiastic golfers, both men and women, who enjoyed a friendly competition under the radiant Caribbean sun.
The celebration continued into the evening with a dinner under the stars, starting at 8:00 p.m., with approximately 80 people in attendance. Guests enjoyed a selection of summer dishes and were treated to an exquisite musical performance, which added a special touch to the evening.
Ferragosto, whose name derives from the Latin term Feriae Augusti (August's holiday), has its roots in 18 BC when the Roman Emperor Augustus established this festival to celebrate the end of agricultural labor. Over time, Ferragosto has evolved into a widely recognized holiday, which also coincides with the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in the Catholic calendar.
The celebration at La Romana Country Club reflects the growing interest and appreciation for this festivity among the community of resident and visiting Italians. This exclusive club has adopted this Italian tradition to offer an enriching cultural experience to its distinguished members and guests.
