Costasur Dominicana is pleased to announce that we have formed a strategic partnership with Vermont for the responsible disposal of 100% waste generated in our community and in other areas of our business group. This agreement, reached in late April of this year in collaboration with our parent company, Central Romana, has allowed us to expand the corporate initiatives we carry out in support of the environment through the collection and management of solid waste.
With this determination, we are expanding our reach in recycling and concluding our first sorted collection program, so we will be removing the blue bins that were provided for these purposes. With the new actions implemented in this agreement, we reaffirm our commitment to protecting the environment and future generations.
Vermont is an innovative and pioneering company in the country for solid waste disposal, employing over 500 collaborators and handling more than 1,500 tons of waste daily. This company has consolidated waste collection and management in most of the region's open-air landfills and has a structure that serves hotels in the eastern part of the country, as well as the municipalities of Higüey, El Seibo, La Romana, and other surrounding areas.
In its first year of operation, Vermont has achieved the co-processing of over 15,000 tons of plastic, over 9,000 tons of cardboard, over 5,000 tons of iron, and over 900 tons of aluminum.
We will continue to support our community and country with other environmental initiatives and measures, like those we have implemented in previous years. These actions include the use of natural gas buses for transporting village employees, the installation of automated irrigation systems for golf courses and gardens, and LED street lighting throughout the complex.
