Last Tuesday, April 18th, at the prestigious Altos de Chavón Archaeological Museum, illustrator Taína Almodóvar and writer Ileana Montero presented the children's book «Grandpa Johnny's Legacies." This book, an ode to the beloved merengue artist Johnny Ventura, seeks to inspire new generations with the story of willpower and overcoming challenges of the iconic Dominican singer.
Starting at 5:00 PM, an enthusiastic group of children from the Casa de Campo community, accompanied by their parents, gathered at the museum to participate in this meaningful activity. The children's presence reflected a genuine interest in learning the lessons this material had to offer them.
The origin of this project dates back to an illustration created by Taína Almodóvar following the passing of the legendary singer. This illustration, shared on social media, captured the attention and affection of many. Driven by this response, Almodóvar decided to go further and contacted writer Ileana Montero. Together, and with the support of the Ventura family, they understood the importance of creating a book that would tell the story and legacy of Johnny Ventura, an icon of Dominican music and culture.
Almodóvar explained that the project's main objective is to ensure that Johnny Ventura's legacy endures for future generations. Although past generations know his work, it was vital that today's children also become familiar with his legacy of perseverance and passion for music.
The book launch event also provided an opportunity for children to have a close encounter with the authors, who dedicated personalized copies to each of the attendees. This direct interaction with the book's creators added a special touch to the experience, strengthening the bond between the readers and the story they were about to discover.
