Casa de Campo offers a wine tasting inspired by the flavors of southern Italy

In an event that shone with sophistication and the exquisiteness of its offerings, La Piazzetta restaurant, nestled in the idyllic setting of Altos de Chavón in Casa de Campo, held a memorable wine tasting accompanied by a seven-course tasting menu. The event, held on September 6 and 7, focused on the vibrant and diverse wine world of Mezzogiorno, the name by which Southern Italy is known.

The wine tasting was led by the renowned sommelier Eduardo García, certified by the prestigious Court of Master Sommeliers. García, with his extensive experience and deep knowledge of wines, offered a complete immersion into the rich winemaking history of Mezzogiorno, a region known for its transformation in recent years. “For a long time, Mezzogiorno focused on producing low-quality, high-volume wines. However, in recent decades, it has re-emerged with extraordinary wines that reflect its true potential and tradition,” García commented during the event.

The attendees had the pleasure of tasting a carefully curated selection of nine representative wines from the region. Among the highlights were the Donnachiara 2022 Fiano di Avellino DOCG; Castorani 2019, Trebbiano d’Abruzzo Riserva DOCG; the Occhipinti Siccagno 2018, Nero d’Avola, IGT Terre Siciliane; and Mastroberardino Radici 2014, Taurasi DOCG. Each wine told a unique story of its region's terroir, climate, and winemaking tradition.

Complementing the enological experience, Chef Rodrigo Menéndez, Culinary Director of Casa de Campo, presented a tasting menu that highlighted the best of the region. The seven-course dinner included delights such as an orange and red shrimp salad, seafood arancini, crab, vitello tonnato, a creative interpretation of porchetta, gnocchi with ragu, and Sicilian cannoli. Each dish was meticulously designed to enhance the flavors of the wines and offer a memorable gastronomic experience.

The combination of exceptional wines and exquisite cuisine made this experience a true feast for the senses, solidifying La Piazzetta as an indispensable destination for lovers of fine food and drink.
