«The Twisted Nutcracker” Dazzles Altos de Chavón

The Elizabeth P. de Zeller Ballet Academy fuses magic, modernity, and social commitment in its annual performance.

Last Saturday, December 9th, the prestigious Elizabeth P. de Zeller Academy of Ballet dazzled the audience with its annual ballet performance at the Altos de Chavón amphitheater. Under the direction of Ivonne Zeller, daughter of the fondly remembered founder Elizabeth P. de Zeller, this year's event was titled «The Twisted Nutcracker,» an innovative show that fused classic essence with a modern and creative touch.

The magical evening began at 8:00 PM, with an amphitheater overflowing with enthusiastic spectators eager to witness the brilliant performance of «The Twisted Nutcracker.» From princesses to mice, soldiers and flower fairies, the stage came alive with a unique fusion of pop and urban music. The highlight of the event was an impressive fireworks display that left the audience in awe.

Behind this impactful performance is the hard work of 100 talented young girls, who dedicated five and a half months of rehearsals to perfect every detail of the show. Director Ivonne Zeller shared her inspiration for the spectacle, stating that she wanted to offer a new, modern, and fun vision of the classic Nutcracker tale.

«One day I sat in my rocking chair and as I was praying, ideas started coming to me for a new, modern, and fun take on The Nutcracker. From that moment on, I started looking for different music, and the choreography just came to me,» Zeller expressed.

The girls not only spectacularly embraced their roles, but they also let their personalities shine through them. The director emphasized that this production is more than just a show; it is a “work of God.” In this regard, the academy has supported the Padre Abreu nursing home for 55 years, helping to cover the needs of those residing in this institution.

«This is a work of God. That is why we support the Padre Abreu nursing home. We have been supporting this home for 55 years. We try every year to do everything possible to ensure their needs are met,» added Ivonne Zeller.

It is worth noting that the Elizabeth P. de Zeller Ballet Academy is the heir to a beloved tradition started by the late Elizabeth P. de Zeller, affectionately known as Tia Eli. For over five decades, Tia Eli kept this tradition alive, and now, under the direction of her daughter Ivonne Zeller, the academy continues to be a testament to the dedication and passion of ballet students.
